Rising signs

The last of the “Big three” is a person’s rising sign, also called ascendant. To calculate your rising sign you have to know the time, place and date of birth. You can find many free websites offering basic charts that include your ascendant. The rising sign tells you how the person presents herself to the world. It is the first piece of you that someone else encounters, the first impression that you make on other people. The vibe or sense that you get when meeting a new person is very likely to be a reflection of their rising sign. The ascendant is particularly linked to a person’s childhood environment and experiences, it is also closely connected to your health and psychical appearance. Identifying individual’s rising sign allows for a deeper analysis of their chart, as it is believed it can show differences between people with the same sun sign. Individuals born on the same day but different hours can have significantly different personalities, on account of having different rising signs. That’s why it is possible for twins to have different personalities. Although less popular today, throughout history, the rising sign was considered to be the most important sign in a person’s chart, now it is one of the three most important ones.

  1. So the whole theory has been evolving throughout centuries. I didn't realise that. I wonder what prompts changes in astrological theory - is it psychological research, developments in astronomy or something else?
