Moon signs

Practically everyone knows something about the sun sign, but what about the moon sign? Unlike the Sun, the Moon passes through each of the signs in two and a half days, to determine your moon sign you have to know the place and time of a persons birth. The moon sign is said to reflect our individual subconsciouses and unconsciousness, everything that is deep inside us. Like our emotions, instincts or reactions to life’s events. After the sun sign the moon sign is considered to be the second most important influence on a person’s personality. Knowledge of our moon sign can help us in identifying the best way to approach our self care, and understand our emotions better. Source:”History of astrology the story of ancient foretelling”

Sun signs

Sun sign is the one everyone knows about, even those who claim they don’t care about astrology will likely know their sun sign when asked. Person’s sun sign is determined by which of the 12 signs of the zodiac the Sun was in at the time of birth, only the date of birth is needed to find out what is your sun sign. It is said it has the most importance in determining our personality, and the essence of who we are. Each sign comes with different characteristics and quirks. The signs are divided into four elements: earth, fire, water and air, each with their own identifying traits. Today sun sign books are the most popular astrology books available. The role of the planets

Our planets are separated into three groups to make sense of their effects. The Personal planets are Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars. These are the planets that have most influence on our daily lives. The position of each one may have a role in our mood, our health and our drives. The Social planets are Jupiter and Saturn. They are further away from the earth and they move far more slowly than the Personal planets, they are thought to have effects beyond personal. They may tell us how larger groups of people behave or guide us through aspects of our lives. The Generational planets are those furthest from the Earth: Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. They can influence entire generations, and they provide a background against which the other planets act. Some astrologers believe that the planets act directly on us, while others think that planets orderly passage across the sky reflects a deep order of the universe.

The zodiac

The ancient Egyptians had created a calendar of 365 days per year based of positions of the stars. They spit 365 days into 12 months of 30 day each, with an extra five day period per year. Other cultures adopted this system. It was noticed that over the year the Sun appears to move in a circle against the fixed signs and constellations. The line that the Sun marks during it’s journey is called the ecliptic. In ancient Babylon the ecliptic was broken up to 12 sections and the first zodiac was created. It is from the Greek ‘zodiakos kyklos’ (animal circle) that we get our term zodiac. Today in Western astrology we separate 12 zodiacs, which are: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces.

The story of the stars

Humans have always been interested with the stars. The stars have been used to mark changes in the seasons and to navigate. It is difficult to trace when the people got familiar with the patterns on the sky, and when were they able to read from them. Ancient cultures across the globe saw these patterns in a different way, they often linked them to legends or myths. The constellations that make up the zodiac are some of the oldest recorded ones. Although there are older records from many different places and cultures, it is ancient Greeks that made a lasting impact on astronomy and astrology. More stars were discover and named after the invention of the telescope. In 1922 a group of astronomers from around the world properly mapped the stars. They put official boundaries between the constellations to make it easier to navigate and locate specific objects. Now the stars are divided into 88 constellations.
